Unable to authorize the app for zoom.com.cn account

Description
Users are signing in using OAuth using credentials from zoom.com.cn.

Error
Unable to authorize the app.

Which App?
App is called “Sococo”.

How To Reproduce (If applicable)
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Sign-up at Sococo.com
  2. Click drop-down arrow near “Talk” -> “Create Zoom meeting”
  3. Input credentials from zoom.com.cn, they are accepted, user is redirected to zoom.com.cn, but app can not be authorized.

Screenshots (If applicable)

Additional context

  • Do we need a separate OAuth app?
  • Do we need to contact Zoom in China to approve our app for Chinese market?
  • Is Zoom operating in China (the website says they’re shutting down)

@tommy please share your thoughts.

Hey @artem.pylypchuk,

Can you please check the browser console for errors, and share your install url so I can debug?

Thanks,
Tommy

Hi @tommy,
You may try with these two URLs

  1. https://zoom.us/oauth/authorize?response_type=code&client_id=2srp9tO7QZCU1RPw_DIDrg&redirect_uri=https://app.qa.sococo.com/ext/oauth/zoom/

  2. https://zoom.com.cn/oauth/authorize?response_type=code&client_id=2srp9tO7QZCU1RPw_DIDrg&redirect_uri=https://app.qa.sococo.com/ext/oauth/zoom/

After enter the credentials, you should get the usual message to authorize the app for zoom.us but you will get the “You cannot authorize the app” for zoom.com.cn.

@tommy we’re not sure when it stopped working (or if it ever worked) because this is our first customer from China.
Please use the URLs from my colleague Ting.

@tommy can the issue be caused by planned changes described here?

Hey @tingung.hu, @artem.pylypchuk,

We are looking into this issue. I will get back to you asap with an update. (ZOOM-185284)

Thanks,
Tommy

hi @tommy, what is the ETA for resolution?

Hey @tomasz.szalanski,

No ETA yet, but we are actively investigating the issue.

Thanks,
Tommy

@tommy this is the behavior we’ve been observing for different credentials and apps:

Although both US and “Chinese” credentials get authenticated on all domains, there’s a difference in behavior whether credentials originated from China or rest of the world - that’s why I was asking about this privacy enhancement changes described in that blog post.

Thanks @artem.pylypchuk,

Our team is looking into this now.

hi @Tommy, do you have any initial finding you can share with us? How to workaround the issue?

T.

Hey @tomasz.szalanski,

We are working on the best solution to fix this. Basically either listing the apps on the Chinese cluster of the marketplace or moving the customer to the same cluster as the existing marketplace.

I will keep you updated.

Thanks,
Tommy

thank you @Tommy. This is important for our large customer and impacting our business.

Hey @tomasz.szalanski,

Sorry to hear that. I have just request upped priority on this. I will have an answer to you as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Tommy

hey @Tommy do you have at least some ETA that we could communicate to our management?

Hey @tomasz.szalanski,

Unfortunately we do not have an ETA. Once I do, I will let you know.

As a workaround, you could develop your app on the China App Marketplace, on their own Zoom account so they can install and use your integration.

Thanks,
Tommy

ok @tommy, that is doable. China App Marketplace has the same rules as standard Marketplace or anything specific we should be aware of?
