*We would like to programmatically apply employee status messages via API to indicate when they are out of the office for vacation or sick leave. There isn’t a publicly documented API method to achieve this and I wondered if it might exist but not yet documented. *

This is a good feature request. I will go ahead and create one. In the meantime, we have this API:

where you can update a users presence states. I know this isnt exactly what you are looking, but its a good start.
