When sub account is created via api, account number is returned as 0

I am using an ISV account to create further sub accounts via api using JWT as authorization. Sub account creation is successful but account number is returned as 0. I tried get account api as well. It also returns account number as 0. Even though, when i login in a sub account, i can see the account number over there. Is this the expected behavior?
