Lang parameter in Closed Caption API document : why "jp-JP" for Japanese?

In examples of lang parameter (on closed caption API page), Japanese is shown as ‘jp-JP’.

But I found in IANA registry:

Subtag: ja
Description: Japanese

Why it is ‘jp-JP’, not ‘ja-JP’ ?
