A native Zoom SMS API would definitely be useful, especially for businesses trying to centralize customer communication workflows instead of depending on multiple external platforms.
We faced a similar challenge while integrating messaging systems for customer notifications and OTP flows across African markets. In most cases, businesses still end up relying on external SMS APIs because they need features like delivery tracking, webhook handling, inbound routing, sender management, and regional carrier optimization.
One thing we noticed is that integration becomes much easier when the SMS layer supports both transactional and conversational workflows together, especially for support teams and CRM automation.
For teams working across Africa, we’ve been testing different approaches around SMS API connectivity, WhatsApp messaging, OTP delivery, and voice notifications through Africala, mainly because delivery behavior varies a lot between operators and countries.
Would be interesting to see if Zoom eventually expands into programmable messaging infrastructure directly instead of only meetings and communications.
