How to create and assign multiple Zoom Phone contact lists to specific users via API for Caller ID matching?

Hi Zoom Community & Developer Team,

We are looking for guidance on the best approach or API endpoints available to manage and assign multiple contact lists/directories in Zoom Phone for Caller ID lookup.

Our Core Requirements:

  1. Multiple Contact Lists via API: We need to programmatically create, manage, and update multiple distinct contact lists (e.g., syncing contacts from an external CRM/database).
  2. Selective Assignment to Users: We need the ability to assign specific contact lists to specific users or groups within our organization via API or Admin Panel.
  3. Inbound Caller ID Matching: When an inbound call arrives from a number contained in a user’s assigned contact list, the contact name should automatically show up on their Zoom Workplace app Caller ID.

(Note: Having hidden contact lists is an optional nice-to-have, but our primary goal is managing multiple distinct lists and assigning them selectively to specific users while ensuring API sync and Caller ID matching work seamlessly).

Questions:

  • What are the recommended Zoom Phone APIs or Company Directory endpoints to manage multiple custom contact lists and map them to targeted users/groups?
  • Does Zoom Phone natively support targeted contact list assignment for inbound Caller ID identification, or is there a specific External Contacts/Company Directory structure we should follow?

Any examples, API endpoint recommendations, or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi @Marco6 , just spoke to your SE and he is going to submit a feature request for you!

Thanks, Gianni. Don’t you currently have a solution for this?

It also helps that I can send contacts to the address book via API—without any user being able to view that address book—so that the caller’s name appears on the caller ID when one of those contacts calls us.
