Make the desktop apps aware of device's mute status, incl. UC headsets

When using a professional Unified Communications headset and with many other headsets, there are 3 places where a user can be muted:

  • in the Zoom app
  • at the OS level
  • on the headset itself

Occasionally leading to confusion when an attendee/speaker attempts to speak as the Zoom client only seems to know about its own mute status.

Suggestion:

  1. query the headset and OS mute status and surface it in the UI, allowing a user to know that he/she is still muted;
  2. optionally integrate with the leading UC vendors so that the mute button on the headset will activate Zoom’s mute function;
