Hi, I’d like to make a hardware mute button similar to
I am hoping to create a dedicated mute (and call status) button (on a custom keyboard) similar to the interface on my headset cable (green light if in zoom call, red light if on mute, button to toggle mute). The mute status of the headset syncs with the app which is a relatively new feature.
Is there an API exposed by the Zoom Desktop application? The “sync” of the mute button on the headset implies there may be.
I have seen a few questions about accessing Mute/Unmute, but they tend to focus o…
but I’m on linux so can’t use a client SDK.
I was thinking it might be possible to use the rest api to mute/unmute myself similarly to how a meeting owner can mute/unmute participants.
Is that possible? Can it work for meetings where I’m not the owner of the meeting? If not, that’s fine, I can do something similar to

Hey @pileofrogs ,
Thank you for reaching out about this. I looked into our documentation and saw that it’s not currently possible to mute/unmute via the API. As you also noted, this would be possible with the Web SDK. As a general rule of thumb, our APIs are for pre and post meeting actions only.
Feel free to submit a feature request at #feature-requests .
Thanks,
Max
