Missing Double_Click_to_Convert.zoom files for Zoom Recording -- Need Help

Hi everyone. I’m reaching out because I really need your help with what seems to be a mildly common issue with missing zoom recordings. I gave my dissertation defense this past Friday, July 18th using a generated meeting ID with automatic recording enabled but before we began, we did a short test run before exiting zoom. When we exited, I guess the test recording saved in a folder in the default path destination assigned by Zoom locally to my computer. We rejoined 15 min later on the same meeting ID to start my hybrid dissertation defense meeting. A new folder was created in the default path destination locally on my computer. Upon rejoining, zoom automatically began recording and I gave my 2-hour defense (yay!) but after allowing the zoom to complete the conversion process of the recording after ending the meeting, the designated folder for my recording was empty. The folder contains no video or audio file, no “double_click_to_convert_01.zoom” or “double_click_to_convert_02.zoom” files, and I have tried each of the troubleshooting steps on the zoom desktop client and web app, which gives me an error message stating that the .zoom files are missing and then created a “recording.conf” file in that folder.

I’m trying to troubleshoot ways to recover this recording as I desperately need it to complete my dissertation revisions by next Monday, July 28th at the latest. I’m not sure if I can extract anything from the recording.conf file that I have since there are no .zoom files for conversion. As far as details, the time stamp for test run recording was 07-18-2025, 11:20 am and the video/audio runs for 8 seconds. The actual defense recording time stamp is 07-18-2025, 11:35 am and the missing recording saved the folder creation at 07-18-2025, 1:39 pm. I’m wondering if there are any other ideas or workarounds that you may offer so that I can recover this file. Again, I desperately need this recording for my dissertation revisions and I’m not sure if Zoom just silently failed or overwrote my 2 hour recording. Please try and let me know how I can be of assistance.

Hi @Adaeze

Welcome to the forum.
Zoom saves local recordings in a special file format and then gives it that name.
When you click on the file, it should load Zoom, and then your file will be converted to a standard video format.

So you need your machine to associate .zoom files with Zoom.
Maybe you have a friend who can help.
Here is a video I did to explain.

All the best

John

I am having the same problem. Were you able to find a solution?

Hey @Melissa2 and @Adaeze
