Will the Web Client requiring users to have a Zoom account be a permanent solution, or is this something that has the potential to be changed?
We have a large amount of chromebooks that were sent home with students to do distance learning and the teachers have been using Zoom to hold live lessons with those students. The district has decided that they would not consent to having students create their own accounts and none of the students are over 16 (both requirements for account creation in the Privacy Policies). This puts us in a difficult situation. Any thoughts?

We are actively talking about this internally. I donā€™t want to say yes for sure but we are aware and are trying our hardest to find an alternative solution.

In the meantime you could use this client: Getting started with the Zoom for Chrome OS app - Zoom Support

It will allow users to join without an account.

Thank you for your reply. We have been trying not to push the Chome Extension for Zoom since we do not want the students having an avenue to create their own meetings using the district supplied devices. This decision was made for the protection of the district to guard against a number of situations involving students
(I will let you use your imagination as to some of the things that could happen on a video call). We understand that we can not control all avenues of this happening, but blocking it from happening on district owned devices helps keep the district safe.

Hi Tim, so just to be clear, there will be no functional differences for anyone using the WebSDK. We can have users who donā€™t have Zoom accounts join meetings and webinars the way we always did in our own apps using the WebSDK, but if they use the Zoom hosted Web Client specifically (not the Zoom client integrated via the WebSDK that we add in our own apps) they will need to have Zoom accounts.

Thanks @TimZoom seriously we appreciate the update. This is super helpful so we can reach out to schools with this info.

For the WebSDK, yes. The WebClient will require login as of now.

In this is written in stone from now on, or are u talking about this atm ?

Is this definitive? can we no longer have an app embed in the iframe?

iFrame isnā€™t officially supported, but we are working on another solution (release TBD). Until then the WebSDK is our recommended solution.

Stay tuned. (Sorry thatā€™s all I can say for now)

Hey everyone. Just wanted to pop in here and let you know that we hear you. As such we added some developer specific statuses to our status page.

A small step in the right direction for sure and we continue to talk internally about how we can be more transparent with you all.

Thanks!

Much appreciated. Really looking forward to the updated SDK version tonight. Weā€™re ready to go any moment.

Now that the iFrame is no longer the recommended route of embedding in a web client, will the WebSDK be updated to allow for higher quality video streams?

A work in progress, yes!

Thanks Tim, thatā€™s encouraging. Any idea on the timeframe (days, weeks, months)?

Thanks for keeping us apprised of the situation, Tim. I know itā€™s only been 10 hours, but that feels like an eternity at the moment.

Are you aware of any updates?

Hey @ZoomFan,

Stay updated here: https://marketplace.zoom.us/docs/changelog

We should have the release rolling out in the next day.

Thanks,
Tommy

Hey @rick2,

No timeline yet for higher quality video streams, but it is in our backlog.

Thanks,
Tommy

Because it is now mandatory for people to login to use the web client we are experiencing a lot of problems. It now redirects all users that want to use the web client to our company SSO login page(Azure AD). But external users donā€™t have an account within our company.

Using the desktop client is not always an alternative, because at some companies they are not allowed to install client. So this makes the product useless for most external meetings.

Is there any timeline when this will be fixed?

Hey @meijndert,

For Web Client inquires please reach out to support.zoom.us as the Web Client is not apart of the Zoom Developer Platform.

Thanks,
Tommy

Honestly, thats not much. We NEED a WebClient without Registration. This is our primary requirement for Zoom. We have a lot of problems right now with our customers, since we cannot use Zoom for any of our meetings&webinars since 4 days! We are talking about money vanishing right now as we speak! And there is no clear answer if this situation will be resolved. We are now forced to look for other video meeting solutions and leave Zoom because of this. It is incredibly how bad communication is on this topic, and how this takes a wrong direction against the needs of your customers.
