Sharing private apps - does the app need to be approved?

Hi, we are developing an app that we plan to publish on the Zoom App Marketplace. Before publishing, we’d like to run a closed beta with external users.

We’ve noted that private apps can be shared with users outside of our account via the process described here: https://marketplace.zoom.us/docs/guides/publishing/sharing-private-apps

Our question is: in order to obtain approval to share private apps, does an app need first need to be approved for publication in the Marketplace? If full approval is not required, does a private app need to go through any of the approval checks in order to obtain permission to be shared?

Thank you very much!

Hi @kibo,

Good questions!

in order to obtain approval to share private apps, does an app need first need to be approved for publication in the Marketplace?

No—as long as the app is set to “intend to publish: yes” you can submit this request.

If full approval is not required, does a private app need to go through any of the approval checks in order to obtain permission to be shared?

A private app does not require review or approval. However, please note that in order to share an app outside of your account, it must be public—even if the intention is to share only temporarily.

The intention of the Publishable URL sharing request is for a temporary grant to share your app with select beta testers ahead of publishing it on our Marketplace.

Let me know if this helps to clarify!
