Again: Web SDK attempting to connect to invalid DNS names

We are once again seeing a significant regional DNS outage causing Web SDK clients to fail to join meetings.

Starting at 2023/04/08 02:29:37 UTC, we started to see a large number of websocket connection errors due to the Web SDK attempting to connect to invalid DNS domains provided to it by the internal Zoom meeting info API:

WebSocket connection to 'wss://zoomiad29rwg.iad.zoom.us/wc/api/XXX...' failed: Error in connection establishment: net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

We’ve seen sustained failures on the following domains:

Given the size of this list I suspect it’s a near total DNS outage for domains in the IAD region.

As with last time, all of these domains are missing the expected A records:

dig +short zoomiad55rwg.iad.zoom.us A

This is a major outage causing near total failure for this region.

Ping @donte.zoom @elisa.zoom as you responded on our previous DNS outage report.

Hi @ryan - Thank you reporting the issue observed. We’ve shared this with our operation engineering group and they report that all systems should be operational at this time and only valid entries should be returned now. If you are seeing anything different please let us know.

Best,
Brendan

Confirmed that we’ve stopped seen the DNS issues at this time.
