Webinar audio support claims are wrong or have changed

https://marketplace.zoom.us/docs/sdk/native-sdks/web#browser-support specifically says that Web SDK will allow webinars to use browser audio. And this worked on recent WebSDK releases.

It says:

  • Joining computer audio on Firefox and Safari is only available for webinar attendees. Meeting participants and webinar hosts and panelists can also join computer audio on Firefox if they are using Linux.

However suddenly the Web SDK says Chrome or Chromium browser is required to use audio, even on a webinar. Is this some kind of short term bug or have you just changed what you’re supporting without updating the documentation?

The Web SDK when using in Safari now says:

Your browser does not support using the computer’s Audio device. To use Zoom, install the latest version of a standard browser, such as Chrome or Edge Chromium.

Thank you

Hey @flippyhead,

We are looking into this and will get back to you.

Thanks,
Tommy

Hey @flippyhead,

This will be fixed in version 1.7.8.

Thanks,
Tommy

Hi @tommy

Can you confirm this was fixed for Safari in 1.7.8? We’re noticing that in Safari the option appears to use computer audio (VOIP) but when enabled no audio is returned.

I’m also seeing that the 1.7.8 changelog only references audio support for Firefox and not Safari: https://marketplace.zoom.us/docs/changelog

Hey @spencer.lee,

Can you please share steps to reproduce the issue and the meeting ID to developersupport@zoom.us so we can debug further?

Thanks,
Tommy

hey @tommy,

We have a JIRA open and it looks like it was a regression: https://zoomvideo.atlassian.net/browse/VEEV-773

Hey @spencer.lee,

Appreciate you notifying me of the Jira, however it seems like that is a dead link.

Thanks,
Tommy
